Shoulder Pain

The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the human body.  It is also one of the most vulnerable to injury because it has to sacrifice some stability to obtain flexibility.  Given these facts, over 70% of Americans will report shoulder pain at some point in their adult lifetime.

The shoulder pain can be temporary and mild, for example if you slept on it wrong.  Shoulder pain can be the result of an acute injury such as a sports injury or car crash.  These injuries can include muscle strains, ligament sprains, tears in the muscles, tendons, ligaments, or labrum, and even dislocations or fractures.  We can also have chronic shoulder pain which can be the result of arthritis or a condition called Adhesive Capsulitis (“Frozen Shoulder”).

Shoulder injections and surgeries are becoming extremely common – sometimes these are even recommended before natural options have been investigated.  Further, shoulder surgeries have significantly longer healing times and are reported as being more painful than surgeries performed on other joints.  It’s also important to note that all surgeries can result in scar tissue formation and adhesions, which have up to 9 times more pain receptors than regular tissue.  There may be no need for synthetic injections or painful surgeries!  Our St. Petersburg office offers many natural and effective treatment choices for shoulder pain and injuries.

We provide natural alternatives for shoulder pain relief!

First, the cause of your shoulder pain must be determined.  The shoulder joint is comprised of bone, cartilage, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fluid.  Injuries to any of these tissues can lead to pain, so a proper diagnosis is critical to treatment.

Do you suffer from:

  • Shoulder pain when you move your arms?
  • Shoulder pain when you lift objects?
  • Shoulder pain when sleeping?
  • Popping or grinding sounds from your shoulders?
  • Have you been diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff, adhesive capsulitis, or osteoarthritis in the shoulder?
  • Have you tried medications or injections for your shoulder pain?
  • Do you feel like you have a “pinched nerve?”
  • Have you been told you need shoulder surgery?
  • Have you had shoulder surgery?

At Thrive Wellness Center, we understand natural and non-invasive options often provide the best results.  Also, a multi-factorial approach that supports the healing processes in the body can be ideal for the complicated shoulder joint.  In our St. Petersburg office, we always start with a thorough medical history so our medical team can understand your individual shoulder issue.  Depending on your specific problems, we’ll design a customized multi-pronged treatment that may include stretches, exercises, IV nutrition, chiropractic care, deep tissue laser treatments, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and/or Regenerative Cellular Therapy (stem cells, for example).

Shoulder Treatment Options

Chiropractic Adjustments:

Sometimes shoulder pain can be the result of a misalignment in the joints of the neck, upper back, or shoulder.  A gentle re-alignment of these joints can reduce asymmetrical wear-and-tear, provide relief to pain, reduce muscle strain, and decrease the likelihood of further damage.  While we can use Regenerative Medicine to heal nerve damage, we also offer traditional treatments to address your structure and misalignments.

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy:  We learn in grade school that a plant uses photosynthesis to change sunlight into energy the plant can use.  What we didn’t learn in grade school is that our cells have a similar ability!  When light of specific wavelengths reaches our cells, the mitochondria respond by producing ATP (the cellular form of energy).  The cells use that added energy to reduce inflammation, promote circulation, heal, repair, and more.  Doing laser therapy before other Regenerative Medicine Therapies allows them to be more effective at healing and repairing, as they don’t have to spend time performing these “housekeeping” tasks.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP):  Whenever the body experiences an acute injury, or degeneration over time, the damaged tissues send chemical signals to other cells for help.  Platelets in our blood quickly respond to repair and heal injuries.  To harness this incredible healing power is actually quite simple.  First, we remove a small amount of blood from your vein.  Next, we spin it in a centrifuge.  This process separates the platelet-rich plasma from the platelet-poor plasma.  Finally, this concentrated liquid, which includes healing substances like growth factors, cytokines, enzymes, and more is then injected into the shoulder so your body can get to work!

Regenerative Cellular Therapy:  Regenerative therapies such as stem cell therapy, exosomes, and more focus on healing, repairing, and regenerating damaged cells and tissues instead of just masking symptoms.  These treatments (stem cells, exosomes, etc.) can perform these functions without dangerous surgeries or medications.

We believe the richest and best source of Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) comes from the Wharton’s Jelly of umbilical cords.  The umbilical cords are donated, harvested, and carefully tested at the time of a scheduled C-section delivery.  While our bodies do have our own stem cells, the number and functionality of these cells decreases dramatically with age.  Therefore, it makes sense to use vibrant MSCs from Wharton’s Jelly to take advantage of their abilities to communicate quickly, replicate robustly, and produce hundreds of bio-active healing substances.  The MSCs can be combined with PRP for maximal results.  Since PRP and Regenerative Cellular therapies are non-surgical, you’ll have little-to-no downtime!

Exosomes – these amazing bundles of bio-active substances that are secreted by cells, including MSCs – promote and increase cellular communication.  When cells can communicate better, they can perform their jobs better, one of which is healing.  By combining exosomes with MSCs and PRP we can achieve immediate and long-term results! By injecting these Regenerative Cellular Treatments into your torn rotator cuff, or your worn cartilage, or anywhere else your shoulder needs help, we can trigger a healing and regenerative cascade.

IV Nutrition and Counseling: It’s no secret that the foods we eat (or don’t eat), and the supplements we take (or don’t take) can have a dramatic impact on our inflammation levels.  And inflammation causes pain.  We see the best reductions in shoulder pain when we coach our patients on anti-inflammatory foods and supplements prior to other treatments.  We can even jump start your progress with a nutritional IV packed with powerful inflammation-fighting ingredients!

Our mission is to help as many people as possible live longer, happier, and healthier lives without pain, drugs, or surgery.  If you are suffering from pain and searching for a Chiropractor in St. Petersburg FL, we invite you to call our office for a free consultation regarding our cutting-edge treatment options for shoulder pain in St. Petersburg.
