Why Do We Get Wrinkles?

As we get older, our bodies produce less collagen.  Collagen is a protein that provides strength and elasticity to our skin.  When we have less collagen, the decreased elasticity can lead to wrinkles, lines, and creases in our skin.   In addition to the impact of aging, ultra-violet exposure, smoking, dehydration, poor diet/nutrition, repeated expressions and more can also contribute to the appearance of our skin.

Wrinkle Reduction & Facial Anti-Aging

In our office, we use a variety of techniques and advanced technologies to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow’s feet, frown lines, blemishes, and more.  The specific treatment recommendation is customized to each individual, depending on their history, age, skin condition, problem-areas, and goals.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a type of sugar molecule found throughout the body.  About 50% of the Hyaluronic Acid in the body is located in the skin, and that makes sense, because one of its primary functions is to retain water.  This causes the tissue to stay plump and firm.  As we age, we produce less hyaluronic acid, leading to thin, lined, and even droopy skin.   And because hyaluronic acid is natural, it is one of the safest “fillers” that can be used for facial rejuvenation!

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP): is another treatment option for facial anti-aging.  In this process, we remove a small amount of blood from a vein.  The tube is placed into a centrifuge and spun down, allowing us to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the platelet-poor plasma.  The PRP – which contains platelets, white blood cells, cytokines, growth factors, and more – is drawn into a needle.  It is now ready to be used in our proprietary advanced anti-aging delivery system.  Our technology allows us to deliver more PRP per square inch more comfortably, thus providing optimal results.  Get ready to promote healing and anti-aging without drugs or surgery!

We’re able to combine PRP (when appropriate) with Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) and/or exosomes.  These products are powerfully anti-inflammatory and contain even more growth factors to stimulate your own body to repair existing damage.  This can result in fewer lines, shallower creases, a more balanced skin tone, and firmer skin in less time

Scar Reduction

Whether you’re concerned with acne scars, chicken pox scars, or other types of scars, Regenerative Medicine options may be able to help!  Scar that create depressions in the skin, such as acne scars, respond well to hyaluronic acid and PRP for the same reasons discussed above.  However, even scars that are elevated may be improved with PRP, Mesenchymal Stem Cells, and/or exosomes.  One of our patients was bitten in the leg by a dog.  Once the initial injuries and bruising faded, she was left with palpable scar tissue about the size of a golf ball in her thigh.  Within 2 weeks of one PRP treatment, the size had reduced by 2/3.  Within a week after her second PRP treatment, the scar tissue was no longer palpable.

Hair Regrowth

Hair loss associated with aging is very common and can be a source of embarrassment for men and women.  Some people try to reduce the appearance of hair loss with hair styles, scarves, or even make-up.  Others let nature take its course, but it may be a constant source of insecurity

It’s natural to lose around 100 hairs per day.  It sounds like a lot, but since other hairs are growing, it generally balances out.  When hair loss exceeds hair growth, we start to see thinning hair.  This can be caused by follicle destruction due to skin diseases (eczema, psoriasis, etc.), medication or treatment such as chemotherapy or radiation, auto-immune issues, thyroid disease, anemia, nutritional deficiencies, and more.

If you notice a gradual and increased thinning on the top of your head, a receding hairline, a widening of the part in your hair, and/or patchy bald-spots, Regenerative Medicine may be able to help!  As long as there are still active follicles, PRP, Mesenchymal Stem Cells, and/or Exosomes can be used to stimulate the follicles to regrow your own hair, naturally. There may be no need for harsh chemicals that can further destroy your follicles, or painful and invasive procedures.

Nutritional IVs and Counseling

Since we know that nutrition plays a huge role in the health of our skin and hair, we must also address this for optimal results.  Instead of remembering to take a handful of supplements every day, we can provide necessary supplements quickly and easily in our office. Identifying and removing foods that contribute to inflammation and aging is an integral part of the recovery process, and we can help you with this, too!

Our mission is to help as many people as possible live longer, happier, and healthier lives without pain, drugs, or surgery.  We invite you to call our office for a free consultation regarding our cutting-edge treatment options for aesthetics and anti-aging in St. Petersburg. We’ve helped many patients in the Greater St. Petersburg area look and feel younger, and we hope you’ll give us a chance to help you.

When to Start Using Anti-Aging Products

There are many factors that must be considered when deciding when to start using anti-aging
products. In this article, we will discuss the benefits of Vitamin C, hydrating ingredients, and oil-
based formulas. We'll also talk about the importance of avoiding harsh scrubs.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a powerful anti-aging ingredient, especially in topical form. It has multiple mechanisms
of action, including skin tightening and collagen production. It is also an effective antioxidant that
helps prevent oxidative stress and hyperpigmentation. However, it is not able to reverse skin
damage.

Vitamin C is often used in combination with antioxidants and retinol. They are effective at protecting
the skin from aging, but they also cause sensitivity in some people. It may be a good idea to avoid
using vitamin C on extremely sensitive skin. In addition, the ingredient can irritate people with
eczema.

Vitamin C is also an antioxidant, which shields skin from free radicals that cause damage to the skin.
It can also protect the skin from precancerous changes caused by UV exposure. It also helps to
reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It can help the skin retain moisture, which is crucial
for a youthful appearance.

Vitamin C is also helpful in improving skin tone. By inhibiting the overproduction of melanin, it helps
to reduce the appearance of dark spots and fine lines. Because of its anti-inflammatory and
antioxidant properties, Vitamin C can repair damaged capillaries and produce a smoother
complexion. It can also improve wound healing and reduce scarring.
Vitamin C can be found in topical products that help protect skin from harmful rays of the sun. While
they cannot reverse wrinkles that develop naturally, they can help reduce the appearance of aging
skin by stimulating collagen production.

Hydrating ingredients

When shopping for anti-aging products, look for ingredients that hydrate your skin. Unlike some
ingredients that only moisturize, hydrating ingredients can also help combat irritation. In addition,
while many anti-aging ingredients work on the deeper layers of the skin, hydrators work on the
surface layers, so they will give you faster results.

One of the most effective hydrating ingredients is hyaluronic acid. This acid helps reduce wrinkles
and fine lines. However, it can cause allergic reactions if you're sensitive to it. Symptoms may
include itching and redness. Similarly, glycolic acid and alpha-hydroxy acids can improve skin
elasticity and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, they can be irritating to
the skin and can make you hypersensitive to the sun.

Another great ingredient to look for in an anti-aging product is hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar
molecule that helps attract water to your skin. Another great ingredient is glycolic acid, which is used
for exfoliation and reduces pore size and texture. Aside from these ingredients, look for antioxidants
and brightening agents, which improve skin's appearance.

Another ingredient that boosts moisture levels in the skin is ceramides. These hydration superstars
enhance skin's texture and make it feel smooth and soft. They're the cornerstone of a good
moisturizer, and they're especially important for dry skin. Besides hyaluronic acid, ceramides,
glycerin, and petrolatum are also great hydrating ingredients.

Oil-based formulas

When to start using oil-based anti-aging formulas depends on your skin's needs. If you have dry
skin, you may want to go with a water-based serum. However, if you have oily skin, oil-based
formulas are fine, as long as they are non-comedogenic and won't clog your pores. Oil-based
formulas are also useful for dry skin.

Skincare formulas with oils are beneficial for many reasons, including dissolving dirt and oil,
supporting a healthy pH level, and correcting oil balance. Oil-based skin care products can also
contain soothing compounds and deeply moisturizing essential oils that can be beneficial for
sensitive skin. Oil-based skincare products can even replace your skin's natural oil, reducing
breakouts and oily skin.

Avoiding harsh scrubs

It's important to avoid harsh scrubs when using anti-aging products. Many of the ingredients used to
formulate scrubs are harsh and can damage your skin. These ingredients include sugar, charcoal,
fruit pits, and coffee. You can find gentler alternatives made with jojoba beads, oatmeal, or rice bran.
However, be careful not to use them on open wounds or broken skin.

While facial exfoliating products are beneficial, most of them are not gentle enough for sensitive skin.
The rough texture of most scrubs can lead to inflammation and irritation. This can further damage
your skin's protective layers. A good choice for gentle exfoliation is a product that contains alpha-
hydroxy acids (AHAs), which are naturally found in fruits and plants. These acids can be found in
cleansers, moisturizers, and serums.

Moisturizing your skin on a regular basis

One important part of your anti-aging skincare routine is moisturizing your skin on a regular basis.
Daily moisturizing will protect your skin from sun damage and also help keep it soft and supple. It will
also help reduce irritation, redness, and inflammation. Choose the right moisturizer for your skin
type. For example, if you have dry skin, you should use a moisturizer that targets dryness.
Another important aspect of moisturizing your skin on a daily basis is applying a sunscreen. The
American Academy of Dermatology recommends a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. It should
also be water-resistant and have broad spectrum protection. After you've applied a sunscreen,
reapply every few hours. A good moisturizer will improve the appearance of your skin's tone and
texture and may also improve fine lines and wrinkles.

Another important step in keeping your skin hydrated is to moisturize after you shower. Using warm
water while showering opens pores. Avoid using hot water, as this will drier the skin and create a
vicious cycle. When you pat dry afterward, you will lock in the moisture.
